These pets are 'ideal for horsing around with'

Cats and dogs beware, the title of most popular family pet may be under threat from a new domestic animal.

Miniature horses were originally bred as pets for European nobility in the 17th century, but they are now making a comeback as animals for the family of today, Pura Vida Ranch states.

Ranch owner Robbie Benjamin explains that the horses have an easy-going temperament and as such are ideal companions for kids.

"Taking care of a horse teaches young children responsibility and makes for a great companion," he states.

Consumers thinking of investing in an animal, especially one that is out of the ordinary, may be advised to carry out research on the breed and invest in comprehensive pet insurance, should it unexpectedly become ill and require treatment.

The British Miniature Horse Society reports that foals can be as small as 15 inches tall when they are born.
