'Social petwork' sites on the rise

An increasing number of pet owners are signing up to new internet sites designed for their pampered pooches and coddled cats.
Hundreds of animals are registered every day on sites which are similar in their set-up to human-focused social network sites such as MySpace and Facebook, reports the Daily Record.
More than 340,000 canines and 140,000 felines are registered on dogster.com and catster.com, respectively.
Each pet can have its own page, in much the same way as human social networking sites do, where messages, photos and other information can be exchanged.
While it may be tempting to spend hours on such sites, if animals and their owners spend all their time online they can become overweight and risk developing conditions which could require a pet insurance claim.
Regarding exercise, pet nutrition firm Hill's has teamed up with a number of tourism bodies to identify the top 21 dog walk routes in the UK.
