Do not be 'caught short' on pet insurance

Consumers have been advised to check the length of their pet insurance policies to ensure that they have sufficient cover for the potentially lengthy treatment of illnesses.
Sainsbury's Bank notes that almost four in ten cat (35 per cent) and dog (37 per cent) insurance policies do not provide cover for conditions that last more than a year.
The firm adds that conditions likely to last longer than 12 months in both cats and dogs include epilepsy, diabetes, arthritis, Cushing's syndrome and heart conditions.
Sainsbury's Pet Insurance manager Claire Moyles commented: "Pet owners need to make sure that the insurance they choose will provide the cover they need in the event of their dog or cat suffering from a recurring condition."
In a recent interview with the Sun, Debenhams Pet Insurance stated that treatment of hereditary conditions that many pedigree animals suffer from can result in their care being prolonged and costly.
