Insuring a pet is "extremely important"

Taking out pet insurance to protect an animal against unexpected veterinary fees is "extremely important", the RSPCA said in recent days.
A spokesperson for the animal charity explained that cover is something that people do not really think about despite all the possible things that can go wrong when they get their new pet.
She recommended that consumers make use of the internet to compare prices for pet insurance to get the best deal that they can as it is something that can save them money in the long-run.
"Even basic health checks and things like that - they all cost money. We think it's really important that people do take out insurance," she concluded.
Figures from the RSPCA indicate that only 17 per cent of dogs and 11 per cent of cats are protected by pet insurance and that almost half of UK pets will require veterinary treatment this year, at an average cost of £220.
