Dogs get into the festive spirit

A canine Christmas party was recently held in Manchester to raise cash for Manchester Dogs Home, it has emerged.

The Manchester Evening News reports that the event included games, fancy dress costumes and an appearance from Santa Paws, described as "a man in a fake white beard with a sack of Bonios".

Some 65 festive dogs and their owners attended the event, which involved an "X-Mas Factor" talent show, where pooches showed off their skills to try and win prizes.

Consumers wishing to ensure that their dogs enjoy as long and happy a life as possible may find that they benefit from investing in comprehensive pet insurance to help them cope with any unexpected veterinary bills, which can prove costly in some circumstances.

In related news, research by pet insurance provider Petplan suggests that one in ten owners admit to overfeeding their pets over the yuletide period, which can have serious consequences on an animal's health.
