Pet insurance 'can protect Christmas creatures'

It is a long-established truth that a pet is for life - not just for Christmas. However, many consumers planning to surprise their family tomorrow with a pooch or moggy might be well advised to take heed of warnings from Defaqto. The company is reminding buyers that while the immediate pleasure of a new pet is valuable - the costs of veterinary bills can be pricey also. Defaqto has stated that consumers should not buy a pet without investing in appropriate insurance as well in order to offset the costs of any unexpected accidents or illnesses. Brian Brown, head of insight at Defaqto, said: "Pet insurance should be a priority for pet owners but it is vital to shop around and check that you know which policy type you are buying before committing to a purchase." The news adds to a recent statement from Sainsbury's Bank, which states that pet owners should review their policies to make sure that the product that they currently use provides sufficient cover for any conditions that their animal might experience.
