Pet insurance 'can help if dogs or cats go missing'

Some pet insurance policies can be of use should a dog or cat go missing, Sainsbury's Bank said today.
The lender revealed recent research which found that some 3.93 million people have had a dog or cat disappear in the last five years.
More than six in ten of these never found their pet and 26 per cent believe theft was involved, it was also found.
However, Sainsbury's Bank suggested that some policies can help the owner with financial assistance if a pet goes missing. This could be used for advertising in the local paper and helping the neighbourhood to keep their eyes peeled.
"Should your animal go missing our advice is to act as quickly as possible and notify the police, rescue centres and your vet immediately," said Claire Moyles, manager of pet insurance at the bank, adding that quality pet cover can be found by shopping around.
Pet insurance can also help owners with medical bills and vaccinations.
