Hilary Benn highlights pet care importance

Hilary Benn, secretary of state for the environment, today noted the importance of caring for domestic animals.

After visiting the Blue Cross animal hospital in London, he stated that it is important for owners, who may be getting used to new pets after receiving them as gifts during the yuletide period, to take their animals for regular veterinary check ups.

John Rutter, chief executive of the Blue Cross, commented: "At this time of year when many people are resolving to eat healthily and exercise more, we are urging people to make the same resolution for their pets.

He added that the organisation's vets are treating more animals with weight-related problems than ever before.

In related news, Fair Investment Company stated in recent days that a pet insurance policy can help deal with potentially costly veterinary bills and advised children who have received pets over Christmas to ask their parents to invest in such cover.
