'Everyone' should get pet insurance

Consumers who are considering buying an animal to celebrate the new year should invest in pet insurance at the earliest possible opportunity, according to Petmeds.co.uk.

Ricky Thomas, managing director at the UK pet health store, stated that there are certain things, such as vet bills, which have the potential to cost "a fortune".

"We would encourage anyone to get insurance - and from day one," he noted.

Mr Thomas explained that, at the moment, Staffordshire Bull Terriers are proving problematic for people as they buy them and then realise they can be very difficult to look after.

He stated that this reflects a lack of research, knowledge and training on the part of owners, which can result in the need to spend a large amount of cash over the animal's lifetime.

Petmeds.co.uk reported recently that the cost of owning a pet is now the highest that it has ever been.
