UK pets 'at bursting point'

Pet obesity in the UK is rising towards epidemic proportions, according to the results of a new survey.
The research, carried out by retailer Pets at Home and a consortium of vets, found that nine out of ten dog owners believe their canines to be in the correct weight range for their breed and age, while research suggests that more than half of the UK's pooches are overweight.
While many owners believe that giving their animals tasty treats may well see their actions as kindness, they may actually be placing them in danger of becoming overweight and in turn at risk of developing a range of diseases, reports Pethealthcare.
Obese animals may well require veterinary treatment and, as such, it may be considered prudent to invest in pet insurance.
Recent research by pet insurance firm Petplan suggested that half of dog owners consider their animal's choices when buying home furnishings such as sofas.
