New year is a traditional time for many people to attempt to shed a few pounds as the festive season comes to an end.
However, some animals are also currently celebrating getting back their beach body - and none more so than Rusty the chocolate labrador.
The Metro reports that the portly pooch has lost 32 kg in the last two years having been put on a strict diet by vets, those seeking out pet insurance may be interested to read.
The now-handsome hound had been allowed to gain fat until he weighed in at 70 kg by his owners, who were penalised by magistrates.
Alex Wylie of Eastgate Veterinary Group told the East Anglian Daily Times: "Rusty has made huge progress. We can now feel his ribs and he has a waistline at last.
"He is a much happier and healthier dog now, his pain is well-controlled and he walks much better than he could before."
Meanwhile, recent research from Pets at Home has warned of the scale of the animal obesity epidemic in the UK.
