'Visit vet' before choosing alternative therapy

Veterinary advice should be sought before owners decide to opt for an alternative therapy, according to the British Veterinary Association (BVA).
Prior to investing in such a treatment, the BVA states that some animals could be misdiagnosed and their owners could be wasting their money, the BBC reports.
Nicky Paull, president-elect of the association, tells the news provider that in the worst circumstances, animals had been given an incorrect diagnosis from an alternative therapist speaking to the owner over the phone.
"I'm a scientist. I believe in evidence-based medicine... some important problems can be missed," she asserts.
Responding, Niki Senior, an "animal healer" with 25 years experience, states that while there are lots of charlatans out there, many people are doing good.
In related news, pet charity PDSA recently stated that animal obesity is a big problem in cats and dogs, with one in every four felines being classed as overweight.
