Britain's wide-ranging pet procedures

Veterinary surgeries in Britain are among only a few in Europe which offer a range of cutting-edge treatments.
News agency Reuters reports that sick animals in the country can benefit from procedures such as chemotherapy, heart surgery or joint replacements.
Furthermore, research by Datamonitor suggests that Britain's pet insurance market is set to grow to almost £600 million in 2011 from around £380 million in 2006.
Roughly a quarter of Britain's 16 million domestic animals are covered by a pet insurance policy, in comparison to less than two per cent of those in the USA, according to Chris Price, a spokesperson for Direct Line.
Lea Liehmann, a soft-tissue surgeon at Davies Veterinary Specialists, tells the news provider: "People are very dedicated to their pets here and willing to spend time, effort and money to get them well."
Meanwhile, the BBC recently reported that the British Veterinary Association advised consumers to seek advice from a vet before they opt for an alternative therapy for their animal.
