Microchip your pets, owners urged

Owners of dogs have been advised to consider having their canine fitted with a microchip to help aid their safe return in the event of them going missing.
The Peterborough Evening Times cites the recent success story of a dog which was reunited with its owner after being found in the city - despite the fact that its owners lived some 85 miles away in Birmingham.
Luckily, the dog had a microchip implanted under its skin, meaning it could be returned to its owner, avoiding the need for any potentially costly pet insurance claims.
Speaking to the publication, pest control and dog service manager Peter Harris explains: "Some owners still think it is normal to let their pet out in the morning and expect it to come home in the evening."
A local RSPCA team recently gave pet owners in Lincolnshire the opportunity to have their animal microchipped for a reduced cost.
