Pet owners given care advice

February is Responsible Pet Owners Month and holistic pet care expert Dr Shawn Messonnier has given people who have furry friends some advice on how to keep animals healthy and hopefully avoid the need to make any claims on a pet health insurance policy.
It is noted that by acting responsibly, pet owners can do much to minimise the chance of an animal becoming sick and needing treatment.
A healthy diet and a well-prescribed regimen of supplements can all help keep a creature healthy and reduce the likelihood of a trip to the vet, he states.
Furthermore, Dr Messonnier recommends minimising the unnecessary use of medications and foods with byproducts and other chemicals in them.
"By practicing safe, responsible behaviour toward our companion animals, we can help owners have joyful, rewarding, long-lasting relationships with their pets," he explains.
Meanwhile, news agency Reuters recently reported that British veterinary surgeries are among only a few in Europe which offer a variety of cutting-edge treatments - including chemotherapy and heart surgery - which a pet health insurance policy could help pay for.
