A pet parrot is about to have its quality of life improved after having a prosthetic leg fitted, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The publication explains that George, an African Grey, has not been able to enjoy a sound night's sleep for 18 months since losing a leg after being attacked by an animal in his aviary.
George's owner Sheila Weare tells the publication: "You can tell by the way he fidgets that he's not comfortable and he has to bite the bars of his cage at night to balance. I'm really happy that Glyn has agreed to take him as a patient."
Dr Glyn Heath from the University of Salford will carry out the operation.
Complex veterinary operation can often be expensive and as such it may be the case that a pet health insurance policy could help to finance such procedures.
In recent weeks, animal charity PDSA noted that certain animals are more susceptible to particular conditions, highlighting the need for research to be carried out before a pet purchase is made.
