Tips for pet insurance

Pet insurance can be an effective protective measure against "nightmare scenarios" where animals are injured and owners cannot afford the bills to return them to health, it has been claimed.

According to financial advice website Fool.co.uk, there are effective pet insurance policies that provide cover for around £10 a month.

There are also a number of benefits to pet insurance other than medical expenses cover, the website states.

"Many policies also provide for theft of your pet, and some even cover more obscure eventualities, like the cost of a cancelled holiday if you need to nurse a sick pet at home," a recent report says.

It also says that people should be sure to check with providers to make sure they are getting a suitable deal. A checklist for those considering pet insurance includes checking whether proper lifetime cover is provided and whether policies include support for hereditary conditions.

A recent US report has found that pet insurance is becoming increasingly popular. The PetFirst Healthcare study has found that pet insurance is the most widely requested company benefit.
