Community Animal Action Week begins
Posted :
26-02-2008
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) launched its third annual Community Animal Action Week yesterday.
The aim of the week is to raise awareness of common pet-related problems, provide free animal care and discounted microchipping and to advise owners on a range of subjects from the best types of food to protecting their favourite animal friend with pet insurance.
RSPCA chief inspector for the area Jim Lucas commented: "The sole aim is to provide assistance for anyone who needs it and to prevent animal welfare problems from occurring."
This year's even is taking place in Northampton, with teams of inspectors and Animal Collection Officers (APO) going door-to-door on the Blackthorn Estate between 09:30 and 16:30 GMT offering assistance.
Many thousands of cats, dogs and other domestic animals across England and Wales have been helped in its first two years of the scheme.
The RSPCA receives no lottery or government funding, instead its operations are funded entirely by individual or group donations, and legacies left to the charity.
