Dog owners warned about Parvovirus

Animal charity the Blue Cross has issued advice to dog owners, warning them to protect their canines from the deadly Parvovirus disease, which it fears could reach epidemic proportions.
The charity is worried that too many owners are neglecting to ensure their dogs are vaccinated for fear of expense, lack of pet insurance, or forgetfulness.
Blue Cross veterinary nurse manager Caroline Powley commented: "It is heartbreaking to see so many young pets fall victim to this killer disease that can so easily be prevented by a simple injection."
Parvovirus is a single-stranded DNA virus which can induce symptoms such as vomiting and dehydration, and more seriously gastrointestinal tract damage cardiac problems, particularly in puppies.
The parvovirus currently has no known cure, making prevention vital, yet many dog owners are unaware that comprehensive pet insurance can help cover the cost of vaccines.
