Pets 'help mental health'

One of the best things a person can do to benefit their mental health is buy a pet, according to the Daily Mail.
The publication asserts that while it may not be an obvious choice, buying a cat, dog or other animal provides an individual with the opportunity and obligation to care for something other than themselves.
Such care may well include a nourishing diet, regular visits to the vet and appropriate medication if and when they become ill, which could be helped with through the purchase of a pet health insurance.
The comments come after the publication recommends resisting reaching for drugs as an answer to depression as many medications can have side-effects which range from nausea to weight gain.
Meanwhile, animal charity the Blue Cross recently advised pet owners to protect their dogs from Parvovirus, a condition with no known cure which it fears has the potential to reach epidemic proportions.
