Pet obesity drug sales 'on the rise'

Sales of drugs designed to help obese pets lose weight have been increasing dramatically, according to figures from Petmedics. Animal obesity can have an impact on a person's pet insurance policy and Petmedics has revealed that sales of the drugs aimed at combating the condition are rising at a more rapid rate than other forms of animal medication. However, experts from the organisation have urged pet-owners - and in particular people with dogs - to aim to tackle the root cause of their animal's weight problems before they resort to using anti-obesity medications, UK Pets reports. A spokesperson for Petmedics said: "As our lives become increasingly [busy] it can be tempting to turn to convenient fatty foods more often and have less time for exercise."
This can impact on a pet's health as well as humans then tend to exercise them less and feed them more, they added. In related pet insurance news, the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals organisation recently highlighted the extent of the issue of obesity among cats and dogs living in the UK.
