Dog Asbos launched

A scheme designed to cut down on the scale of anti-social behaviour exhibited by some dogs on London streets has been launched. The initiative will aim to encourage young people about the dangers to other animals and people of failing to look after a dog properly and has been backed by a range of community and charity groups in London. Reports from Battersea Dogs Home and the RSPCA, both of which have come out in support of the canine Asbo idea, have suggested that more and more people living around the capital are buying dogs purely as a status symbol. Particular "tough-looking" breeds of dog are growing in popularity around London Police figures have shown but whatever the reason for buying a dog might be, it is important to take out adequate pet insurance cover. Mayor of London Ken Livingstone commented: "The scheme launched today has my full support as it aims to strike at the heart of the problem, teaching and educating young Londoners how to behave responsibly with their pets." Meanwhile, the RSPCA is continuing with its efforts to help pet owners around the country through its upcoming third annual Community Animal Action Week.
