Hop-along hen combats cancer

An unlikely pet is being treated for cancer at one of the top animal oncology units in Europe, according to reports.
Eve, a one-legged hen, is not the usual type of pet who is brought in to the Animal Health Trust near Bury St Edmunds, reports the East Anglian Daily Times.
Racehorses are the typical patients at the centre, but Eve's owners Chris and Elaine Denny from Worcester believed their Sussex Buff cross deserves the best an animal can get.
Ms Denny told the paper that the animal is a normal pet to the family and responds to her name in a similar way that a cat or dog would do.
"It doesn't matter if she has four legs, two or in this case one," she said, adding that even though the couple own 15 chickens, they have a "soft spot" for Eve.
Her husband added that most chickens do not get this type of treatment. "But this is a pet and we want to do the best we can in the same way anyone would for a cat or dog," Mr Denny concluded.
A Reuters article recently suggested that British pet owners - whether they have insurance or not - are willing to dig deep into their pockets to fund the treatment their animals need.
