Vets warn of unprotected pets

Vets have voiced concern that diseases which are potentially life-threatening to pets could be on the rise.
Calls to ensure that pets are protected have been made in light of a surge in myxomatosis after the flooding last year.
As such, more than 1,750 veterinary surgeries across the UK are running an amnesty for pet owners over the course of March as part of National Vaccination Month.
Owners will be able to get their furry friends vaccinated against a whole range of diseases for the cost of a booster, PRNews reports.
Matt Brash, a vet from North Yorkshire, comments: "Many pet owners simply don't realise that their pets are at risk of disease but, in the meantime, less than half of all dogs and cats are vaccinated, which is well below the amount needed to protect the pet population through herd immunity."
In related news, pet health insurance provider Petplan recently warned drivers that anti-freeze is harmful to their animals.
