Dogs 'should not be stereotyped on their breed'

Pet insurance providers and owners should judge dogs on an individual basis, rather than their genetics, according to animal charity the Blue Cross.
Laura Dobson, a spokesperson for the organisation, explained in recent days that no breed is "automatically aggressive", explaining that it is very much a case of nurture rather than nature.
"The behaviour of dogs as they grow older is very much determined by their environment," she noted.
Ms Dobson added that the charity would always urge people to be very careful with their canines, but that they should be judged on an animal-by-animal basis rather than simply generalised based on their breed.
She concluded that many breeds receive bad press following isolated incidents.
Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act (1991) prohibits the ownership of four types of dog in the UK - the Japanese tosa, the Dogo Argentino, the Fila Brasileiro and the Pit Bull Terrier.
