Rising interest rates blamed for abandoned pets - pet health insurance

An animal rescue worker has attributed an increasing number of abandoned pets to rises in the base rates of interest.
Sheila Stewart, from Capricorn Animal Rescue Centre, tells the Wrexham Leader that she thinks that when people are forced to leave their homes due to not being able to keep up with mortgage payments then animals bear the brunt of the eviction.
"I get six or seven phone calls a day from people in this situation. I've just had a phone call from someone who has been evicted, asking me to take their dog in," Ms Stewart explains, saying that some people who are in financially unstable situations often get rid of their animals.
Meanwhile, Tesco Pet Insurance suggested in recent days that the price of everyday veterinary treatment for pets has increased by more than 20 per cent since 2002, quoting figures from the Society of Practicing Veterinary Surgeons.
