Bookstore visitors 'just come to see the cats'- pet health insurance

Two adopted cats are proving to be a popular attraction in a Californian book shop.

Browsing customers have even created a fan club for the felines and donated a handmade bowl inscribed with their names.

Elmo, who is five years-old, and the younger Red, two-years old live permanently in the Bookshop and are as sort after as the books.

"We get a lot of customers who aren't really customers. They're just coming in to see the cats," said Betty Schumacher, manager of the shop.

Kaori Sueyoshi, a student who helped set up the fan club, took to the cats instantly.

"They're incredibly friendly and open. Most cats run away but they just come up to you and say hi," said the student.

It is not only America where cats are eager to make book shops their permanent home. A cat has been recently pictured in a Turkish bookshop where it has made a bed out of books.
