Dogs give young readers paws for thought - pet insurance for dogs

A group of specially trained dogs in the US are lending young readers a helping paw in the quest for literacy, it has been revealed.
A new Peninsula Humane Society/SPCA course called Paws for Tales provides young readers with a faithful friend who will sit with them as they practice and reward good reading with a wagging tail, Inside Bay Area reports.
Intern volunteer coordinator for the Peninsula Humane Society Ginger Mozzetti tells the publication: "When a child reads to a dog one-on-one, they can raise their reading level by two grades in a short period of time."
Children's librarian Jacky Averill agrees, stating that the program allows children a non-judgemental friend to practice in front of who won't mind if they stumble over words, adding: "As adults, we don't always wag our tails enough."
While pet insurance for dogs cannot guarantee a book deal, it may help Pong and Co maintain good enough health to one day compete with a true master - Spot the Dog has been helping children learn to read since his first tale was published 28 years ago.
