Cat returns after three-year absence

Spats, a cat who ran away three years ago from its home in West Linton, is now being nominated for an award by an animal charity for his amazing return.
The 17-year-old feline had decided he had had enough when owner Lynnet Home had bought two new kittens and left through the kitchen window.
Jim Toy, veterinary officer at Cats Protection, the animal charity nominating Spats, said it was rare for cats to be gone for that long, but said: "Spats obviously found ways to survive on the streets, whether this was scavenging for food or relying on kind people to take pity on him."
Despite living beside its owner its whole life, Spats and other cats can decide to leave for a period of time and may need medical care after their absence. Taking out reliable pet health insurance can ensure that any unexpected absences from a pet can be taken care of in the event of a return.
