Goldfish grows over 15 inches - pet health insurance

A goldfish in Kent has astounded its owner by growing to an "amazing" size.

Ada Shaw, an 83-year-old widow from Folkestone, bought her pet fish Goldie 15 years ago when it was just an inch long.

The fish has since grown to 15.7 inches in length and five inch in height and weighs over two pounds, making health insurance desirable for the unique pet.

Experts believe that Goldie could be the UK's longest goldfish and could one day overtake the Dutch goldfish which, at 18.7 inches, holds the world's longest fish record.

Mrs Shaw said she doesn't overfeed the goldfish and revealed that "he gets fed fish flakes like clockwork twice a day".

Darren Gook, marine biologist with Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre, said: "I have never heard of any goldfish to grow to this size. It's simply amazing."

Goldfishinfo.com reveals that the oldest goldfish live for 43 years after its owner won it at a fairground in 1956.
