Pet owners should take care to make sure that the animals are not stressed when moving house, experts have reminded.
In joint advice from the PDSA and removal firm Robinsons International, has recommended owners consider housing animals with a kennel or friends, reports propertyconfidential.co.uk
This will avoid pets becoming stressed watching their housing, food and pet health insurance documents being packed away and allow owners to concentrate on the move.
Once in the new home, all the animals possessions should be set up before the pet comes into the house and then should be left alone with them to calm down, the website advises.
The experts also recommend that pets are allowed to explore gradually, so they don't become too overwhelmed, while bedding should not be washed for a few weeks as the familiar smell will be relaxing.
Further advice includes making sure cats and dogs have clear ID collars, in case they get lost in the new area.
Yesterday it was reported that a Nevada dog made a 80-mile journey to return home after running away from its owner while on a trip.
