A new school which aims to deliver "world-class" training to guide dogs has opened in Scotland.
The training centre at Forfar was opened by HRH Princess Alexandra and will teach the dogs how to guide their owners around different environments, reports the BBC.
Puppies will arrive at the centre when they are one year old and will receive preliminary training before being sent across the UK to help the blind.
The centre features an outdoor area in which the trainee guide dogs can become familiar with traffic lights, road surfaces and obstacles such as road signs and puddles.
Bridget Warr, Guide Dogs chief executive, told the news provider: "This is a fantastic day for Guide Dogs as we celebrate the opening of our world-class guide dog training school that supports our position as a world-leader in the breeding and training of guide dogs."
She also said that the organisation's priority is to expand their service, so everyone in need of a guide dog could receive one.
According to guidedogs.org.uk, the most common breed used is the golden retriever, although German shepherds and labradoodles have also been used.
