Firefighters who were called to tackle a blaze at a Morecambe home found themselves resuscitating a strange patient.
After being called to a chip pan fire, firemen found that the female occupant of the flat had managed to escape with her dog, reports the Lankland Echo.
However, her pet parrot was still trapped in the burning building, sparking a rescue effort.
The firefighters donned breathing apparatus and went to the inferno, where they rescued the bird and put out the flames.
Oxygen was used to revive the passed-out parrot, who should have pet health insurance after his close call.
The woman was treated for burns to her hand and taken to hospital, while there have been no updates on the condition of the dog and bird.
Watch manager Tim Murrell told the newspaper: "The fire service advises that people dispose of their chip pans and purchase a deep fat fryer instead."
In 2006, a man who threw a mouse onto a pile of burning leaves watched as the blazing rodent scuttled out of the fire and into his house.
His home was completely destroyed in the resultant fire, reports the BBC.
