A Los Angeles fish has been trained to play a range of sports by its expert owner.
Comet the goldfish can play football, basketball and rugby after training from Dr Dean Pomerleau, and is also showing skill in fetching a hoop, zigzagging through slalom poles and limbo dancing.
Dr Pomerleau, who specialises in training fish, used positive reinforcement techniques on Comet, which involved giving him food treats as rewards for good behaviour.
He believes that pet fish can be taught even complex tricks using food as an incentive and predicted that trained goldfish could become man's new best friend.
"Now people in the market for a dog might want to consider a fish instead," said Dr Pomerleau.
Comet, who should be covered by pet health insurance, is now a contender for the title of fish that knows the most tricks.
The talented newcomer has already mastered the repertoire of record holder calico fantail Albert Einstein - also trained by Dr Pomerleau.
In related news, a dolphin called Winter has been fitted with a prosthetic tail to help her swim at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Florida.
