Dogs that fancy taking a tipple with their owners can now do so, after the launch of a beer aimed at canine consumers, it has emerged.

Pets At Home, the UK's largest pet retail store, will stock Dog Beer for owners and pets that want to drink together, reports the Online Evening Times.

The beer has been created to contain extra vitamins and no alcohol - which is good news, as it is unclear if drunken accidents are covered by pet health insurance.

However, the drink, originally called 'tail-wagging beer' in Holland, does have the taste and smell of the human version, as well as coming in the traditional bottle with metal crown cap.

A spokesman for the store told the website: "While initially people may think of it as a novelty, dog beer makes a delicious treat for a thirsty dog."

The beer was invented by pet shop owner Gerrie Berendsen, who wanted to reward her pets after hunting, according to the BBC.
