£2m appeal for cat shelter - Cheap pet insurance A West Yorkshire cat charity has launched a £2-million to build a new shelter, it has been reported.
The Haworth Cat Rescue needs the new premises to cope with cat and kittens that are abandoned in the Bradford, Hebden Bridge and Skipton area, according to the Keighley News.
Jane Foers, committee member at the charity, told: "Cats and kittens are brought to the shelter for a variety of reasons - owners may have died or gone into residential accommodation or the cat may have become lost."
Ms Foers also revealed that the group is unable to fulfil every request for help that it receives, but the construction of a new shelter would help to solve this problem.
The shelter would allow Haworth Cat Rescue to care for up to 150 animals, none of which will hold pet insurance, and would provide a site for an in-house veterinary centre and office for the staff of volunteers.
Haworth Cat Rescue was recognised as the best cat rescue in Britain went it won the 1998 Friskies Petcare Foundation Award and has a policy of not putting animals to sleep.
