Dog owners who believe that their canine companion has acting talents are being encouraged to let them audition, it has emerged.
According to the Evening express, The Wizard of Oz is set to be performed by the Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts, but the theatre company is missing one essential character - Toto the dog.
To fill the role, auditions will be held on Sunday at the Aberdeen Arts Centre to find to dog destined to have its name in lights.
Rachel Young, organiser of the theatre group, told the newspaper of the qualities they are looking for in the performing pooch, which should be small enough to be picked up by Dorothy and accustomed to being handled.
"The dog does not have to look like the real Toto in the film but should be well behaved and not scared by bright lights or music," she revealed.
In the 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz, Toto was played by Terry, a five-year-old cairn terrier, who was paid $125 (£112) a week - more than many of the film's human actors, according to imdb.com.
