A website that was launched just 14 months ago has celebrated rescuing over 1,900 dogs, it has emerged.
DogsBlog.com was set up in January 2007 to provide a modern way to help re-home abandoned canines, reports DogMagazine.net.
Ryan OMeara, who is also editor-in-chief at K9 Magazine, said that he established the website after realising that it would provide people who wanted to adopt a dog with an easy way of viewing animals housed at different rescue centres.
Animal fans looking to adopt a dog can search the site by a range of criteria, including age, breed type, geographic location and personality, to help them find the perfect pet.
The Blue Cross, which is involved with the website, applauded the success of DogsBlog.com, telling the magazine: "The more people who see these dogs then the better chance they have of finding a home with a loving family.
"Prospective dog owners spend time looking at the site and can fall in love with the dog of their dreams."
Celebrities were also happy to support the site, with home improvement expert Linda Barker saying it provided a "fabulous service" for dog lovers and abandoned animals.
Dogs currently featured on the website include Twinkle, a one-year-old lurcher/Staffordshire bull terrier cross, who is described as being "very sociable and a very sweet natured".
