A Japanese parrot who escaped from his cage followed advice given to school children across the world and told a helpful stranger his name and address.
Yosuke the African grey parrot flew away from his home in Nagareyama city near Tokyo and was later discovered on a roof in the neighbourhood.
After being taken by police to a vet, the missing parrot, who should have pet insurance to cover his wandering activities, decided to let helpers know who he was.
"I'm Mr Yosuke Nakamura," the bird told the startled vet.
Just in case that information was not enough, Yosuke went on to reveal his full address.
Policeman Shinjiro Uemura revealed: "We checked the address, and what do you know, a Nakamura family lived there."
African grey parrots are one of the most intelligent birds and are known for their ability to learn words and phrases and recognise objects and colours, according to african-grey-parrotonline.com.
