Pets need help with fleas - Cheap pet insurance

UK pet owners should take steps to save their animals and homes from fleas, according to a leading veterinary charity.
PDSA, which provides support to animals of people in need, revealed that there could be up to 20,000 flea eggs in each pet-owning household in the UK.
The charity also estimates that through the summer's height of flea infestation, the UK dog population will lose as much as 17,600 pints of blood each day from the parasites.
Elaine Pendlebury, PDSA senior veterinary surgeon, noted that flea eggs fall over infected animals and can lead to homes being infested with thousands of the insects and their eggs.
However, Ms Pendlebury also revealed that there are treatments available which can help cats and dogs recover from the infestation, meaning that claims on pet health insurance and costly vets' bills can be avoided.
"Remember too that treating your pet is only part of the procedure as you will have to treat your home and all of the pets within your household too," she continued.
"Everything the dog or cat comes into contact with should be treated," Ms Pendlebury concluded.
Directgov recommends taking steps to prevent pets catching fleas in the first place, including regularly washing bedding, replacing carpets with wood flooring and combing cats and dogs every day with a fine-toothed comb.
