Cloned dogs on offer - Pet insurance quote

Pet owners who value their dogs so much they want more than one are being offered the chance to buy a clone of their animal.
Californian biotech company BioArts International has unveiled a project called Best Friends Again, which will give five owners an exact genetic copy of their pet.
Aiming the service at owners who want a younger version of their ageing pet or think their dog would appreciate a younger twin, bidding will start at $100,000 (£50,000) - meaning that pet health insurance for the cloned animal is almost essential.
Lou Hawthorne, chief executive of BioArts, claimed that the project is possible, as he recently received three clones of his dog Missy, who died in 2002.
However, some have criticised the firm for its plans.
Marcy Darnovsky, associate director of the Oakland-based Center for Genetics and Society, said: "If we get used to cute cloned puppies, will some people expect cute cloned babies next?"
Last month, it was revealed that South Korea's customs service is training a batch of clones of its best sniffer dog to join in their drug detection activities.
