Pet couture going strong in Sunderland - Insurance for dogs

A business in Sunderland is giving the area's dog owners a chance to dress their pets in the latest fashions, it has emerged.

Charlie & Ben Designer Petwear was started two years ago by Mark and Debbie Nelson after they saw the popularity of clothes for celebrity canines in the US, reports the Sunderland Echo.

Ms Nelson told the publication: "It's not just about dressing dogs up to look funny, it's about bringing the traditional every-day tartan coats up-to-date so people can have dogs in fashionable items."

From its website, the firm offers dog lovers a selection of designer dog clothing, fashionable collars and pet carriers, with plans to expand the range to include more items.

According to the newspaper, business is booming, with dogs across the UK and Europe wearing clothes from the website.

The owners of the firm also claim that their inspiration comes from their two pet cockapoos, Harvey and Lester, who cry if they cannot wear their clothes.

Earlier this year, Charlie & Ben Designer Petwear expanded to set up the Designer Petwear Boutique in Gatehead's Metro Centre.
