A group of helpful hounds and their owners have donated £500 to a north-east ambulance service, it has been reported.
The Crook and District Dog Training Club gave the money to the Great North Air Ambulance as part of its annual fundraising activities, according to the Wear Valley Mercury.
Each year the group donates to one animal and one human charity. This year, £100 each was raised for the ambulance service and the Fir Tree Greyhound Trust.
However, the group decided to give an extra £400 to the service in recognition of its work.
Janet Hume, the Great North Air Ambulance fundraising manager, told the newspaper: "£500 will keep the helicopter in the air for half an hour, in which time we can save a life.
"They have made a fantastic effort for us here and we appreciate everything we can get."
The service operates three helicopters in Teesside, Cumbria and Northumberland to transport injured and ill people to hospital, with annual costs of around £1.2 million per helicopter.
