A missing Scottish kitten was rescued by firemen using a vacuum cleaner and a sock, it has been reported.
Two fire engines and eight firefighters from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service were called to Claire Coutts' home in Dunbar, East Lothian, when the pet went missing, according to Evening Times.
By using a vibrascope camera, which is used to find people trapped under rubble, firemen discovered the kitten had become trapped down a drain after its mother went behind the kitchen sink to give birth.
At first, the firefighters wanted to tear up the floorboards to retrieve the missing moggy, but Ms Coutts convinced them otherwise.
"I said to them there must be an easier way to get the kitten out than destroying my kitchen so we decided to get the Hoover out and see if we could suck it out," she revealed.
"We put a sock over the end of the Hoover, stuck it down the hole and out it popped," she explained.
The kitten was recovered unharmed, although it is not known whether it has pet insurance.
In other news, a toad that was swallowed by a pet dog survived for more than 40 minutes in the animal's stomach.
The pet eventually regurgitated the cane toad, which hopped away without harm, reports the Northern Territory News.
