Charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has named a six-year-old mongrel as the Rescue Hearing Dog of the Year.
Gypsy, who lives with Janet Durbidge in Milton Keynes, was given the award by TV vet Joe Inglis at the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People's Summer Fayre for making a difference to her owner's life.
Ms Durbidge lost her hearing when she contracted meningitis at six months old and is unable to use a hearing aid.
She said before she received her hearing dog, she felt "isolated and depressed" because people would not try to communicate with her.
"From the minute Gypsy came to me I immediately noticed how she was beginning to change my life," she continued.
"People started to take notice of me, and I realised it was because of Gypsy and her hearing dog coat which made them aware I had a hearing loss," Ms Durbidge explained.
She also revealed how the dog had saved her from a fire by alerting her that an iron was burning.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People was launched at the 1982 Crufts and has gone to place over 1,400 dogs with deaf owners.
