A dog which helped save another's life has been recognised for his bravery.
Milo, a six-year-old terrier from Appledore in Devon, won the Petzfactor 2008 contest, which was run by social networking website Saga Zone.
The dog, which has injured legs and brain damage after being abused by a previous owner, jumped into the sea to save a spaniel from drowning.
He took the competition title when a panel of judges including vet Bruce Fogle and animal behavioural expert Pippa Ducat voted for him above 500 other entries.
Mr Fogle said Milo was a "true star" for rescuing another dog, despite his damaged legs, and described him a "hero".
Milo's owner, Lynda Pomfret, commented: "He's not the sharpest tool in the box but he'll always be a hero to me."
In other news, the Blue Cross pet charity is to host an event at Shobrooke Park in Devon on June 22nd, according to the Mid Devon Star.
The fun day will raise money for an animal adoption centre in Tiverton which looks after homeless and unwanted pets.
