Dog gives blood transfusion - Pet insurance for dogs

A labrador turned in a real 'blood hound' when it gave a transfusion to help another dog, it has been reported.
Sue Gamblin bred Fifi, a bichon frise, last October and then sold her to a family, according to the Border Counties Advertiser.
However, her new owners returned the pet to Ms Gamblin when the dog fell sick with a liver disorder, leaving her to try and save the animal.
A £700 operation was performed to restore blood flow to her liver, but the stricken animal still needed a blood transfusion to survive the ordeal.
Then Sally, Sue's labrador, stepped in and provided the blood needed to save her canine companion.
Mark Overend, the vet who operated on the dog, told the newspaper: "When you fight hard to save an animal's life, there is no greater reward than seeing that animal pull through and make a full recovery - that's what makes a vet's job worthwhile!"
Meanwhile, Vinnie, a dog in Australia, has given blood over ten times in three years to help other animals, according to the Camden Advertiser.
Vinnie's owner, Rebecca Stephenson, told the newspaper she hoped that others would do the same to dogs in need of emergency transfusions.
