Pooches allowed to play music - Insurance for dogs

A dog centre in Stokenchurch has won the right to play music to its canine residents, it has been reported. Charity Stokenchurch Dog Rescue has been declared exempt from rules that require places of business to pay for the right to play music. following a national plea on GMTV last week. Buckinghamshire Free Press reports that the Performing Rights Society (RPS) had told the group that it would have to pay an annual fee in excess of £100 to continue to play the radio to calm the dogs. However, as the music was being used to help make the dogs more at ease, the PRS changed its mind and granted an exception to the charity.
Geoff Perfitt, one of the charity's trustees, told the newspaper: "It's been a barmy - perhaps barking mad - situation which we're glad we've resolved.
"It's a victory for us and others like us. It was an absurd situation until then."
Stokenchurch Dog Rescue was founded 1963 and rescues stray and unwanted dogs, in addition to those impounded by the police.
