A celebrity gardener has opened the new Garden of Remembrance in London's PDSA Animal Cemetery.
Bob Flowerdew, who presents BBC Radio 4's Gardener's Question Time, designed the new garden to be a place where people can quietly think of the 3,000 pets which are buried at the cemetery.
Mr Flowerdew commented: "I'm an animal lover and I have grieved over many pets over many years and remember them all with great fondness.
"To celebrate these memories, I wanted the garden to be a joy to the senses."
As 12 animals in the grounds were awarded the PDSA Dickin Medal - the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross - the garden was designed around the blue, green and brown colours of the medal's ribbon.
Among the 61 animals awarded the Dickin Medal are Thorn, an Alsatian, for locating air-raid casualties in a burning building and Punch and Judy, a boxer dog and bitch, for saving two British officers from an armed terrorist in Israel.
