Pet insurance recommended for dog walkers - Insurance for dogs

Following on from the RSCPA's warning to be careful when walking dogs near cliff tops, the charity has highlighted the importance of taking out pet health insurance.
The charity reissued its warning after three Dorset dogs were rescued within 24 hours of each other, reports the Dorset Daily Echo.
Ros Evans, watch manager at Portland Coastguard, revealed that rescues cost a great deal in resources and could be avoided if dog owners used leads.
Jo Story, RSPCA deputy chief inspector, told the newspaper she had to help the coastguard rescue a schnauzer dog that had fallen 100 feet from a cliff in the area, resulting in a broken pelvis.
"It's also an object lesson in the importance of having pet insurance. Without insurance the extensive veterinary care this dog needed could have run into thousands of pounds," she commented.
The RSPCA warned dog owners last week of the dangers of cliffs after a spaniel fell 12 metres and needed treatment for a broken paw, costing £1,400.
